HJF is seeking Multiple Graduate Students to support the Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO) located at the Rockledge Office in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to ACESO. This position can be performed 100% remote.

HJF is seeking Multiple Graduate Students to support the Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO) program. ACESO has built a global clinical research platform to study the host-response to severe infection and to translate results into action. The Graduate Student will be responsible for helping to develop the necessary computational tools to better understand the pathobiology of sepsis and/or Covid-19. This work will involve analyzing, visualizing and interpreting multi-omic data from a longitudinal cohort of sepsis and/or Covid-19 patients. Possible areas of research include but are not limited to gene network analysis, trajectory clustering analysis, or multi-omic data integration. Projects will be determined based on the candidate’s level of education, area of expertise, and career interests.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop computational tools to analyze multi-omic (e.g. proteomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic) longitudinal data obtained from sepsis and/or Covid-19 patients. (50%)
  • Create data visualizations for reports and assist with preparation of manuscripts and presentations. (20%)
  • Present results to and discuss findings with a multidisciplinary team. (20%)
  • Assist with quality control, cleaning, and transformation of laboratory and clinical data. (10%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • BS or MS in Mathematics (with an interest in biology), Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Fluency in a programming language such as Python, R, or C++.
  • Team-oriented with ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and present effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with biological, clinical, and/or laboratory data analysis preferred.
  • A strong interest in data analysis approaches in biomedical research and infectious disease biology.
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in computational biology, mathematics, or related field preferred.

    Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum of 0-2 years of experience required for this position.

    Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Incumbent must be enrolled in a graduate program.

    Work Environment: This position can be performed 100% remote.

    Travel Requirements: This position allows for telework and is not restricted by location; however, incumbent may be required to meet with partners, sponsors, and/or attend local conferences/training events within a 50-miles radius of Bethesda, MD. Any travel over 50-miles will be reimbursed by the program.
