What You Will Do

The selected applicants will serve as a test engineer supporting the development and utilization of advanced test techniques, specifically, the uncertainty quantification of experimental capabilities to increase confidence in test methods and equipment, and their application to weapons development.

In support of this effort, the successful candidate will support test requirements identification and documentation, test design and planning activities, component fabrication, technical oversight, experiment execution and data gathering, analysis and interpretation activities, and formal test reporting.

Post Masters Student (Post Masters ST) ($67,517)

Successful applicants will perform the following duties in this position:

  • Solve mechanical engineering problems:

  • Design test hardware, fixturing and tooling

  • Complete engineering analysis for test hardware design and test planning

  • Determine and implement instrumentation and data acquisition solutions

  • Prepare and execute experiments

  • Complete post-test analyses

  • Thoroughly document results

  • Author engineering documents such as test plans, test procedures, test reports and engineering requirements

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of test engineering including test design, planning, preparation, execution, data reduction and analysis, and documenting of experimental work.

  • Demonstrated experience in acquiring and interpreting experimental data such as acceleration, temperature, strain, force and displacement.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the use of specialized engineering software for data acquisition and analysis, such as MATLAB, LabView, Origin, or other similar software.

  • Ability to accomplish technical tasks while working independently or as part of a team with other engineers, scientists, and technicians.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and experience interacting with all levels of personnel and customers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of dynamic measurements, measurement techniques, instrumentation, and digital signal processing techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of experimental and analytical modal analysis including modal analysis test methods, curve fitting, input and response location optimization and extraction of modal parameters.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of transfer path analysis, dynamic sub-structuring and analytical or numerical modeling of dynamic systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of uncertainty quantification techniques.

  • Environmental, product life-cycle, or shock and vibration testing experience.

  • Experience with setup, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrodynamic shakers and slip tables.

  • Familiarity with finite element methods and techniques including comparison with experimental data.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related field), with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent, from an ABET accredited institution within the last three years.
