What You Will Do
The Eulerian Codes Group (XCP-2) is seeking recent graduates looking for a challenging post graduate internship at the post-baccalaureate level in machine learning and astrophysics. Selected candidates will be provided with a mentor, a challenging project, and an opportunity to present their work and progress to colleagues. The projects will vary depending on the skills and interests of the candidate and the Laboratory’s current needs.
XCP-2 is a software development and applications tools organization that works in four principal LANL mission areas:
Nuclear Weapons Program
Threat Reduction and Department of Homeland Security programs
Basic science and technology research programs
Institutional Computing Program
The successful candidate will work closely with XCP staff and Eulerian Applications Project (EAP) team members to conduct research in numerical methods and algorithms, physical model development, and software engineering. We contribute to a wide variety of basic and applied research activities that are directly applicable to core needs.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The successful candidate should have the education or experience in one of the following areas relevant to XCP-2 and EAP:
Experience with physics-based Machine Learning
Proficient in one (or more) of: Python, Fortran, C, C+
Experience and interest in astrophysical research
Broad high level knowledge of stellar evolution and physical processes in stars and/or supernovae
- Strong leadership and self-motivation skills
Education: BS/BA Degree from an accredited program in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, or related field completed within the past 2 years with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
