Description of Work Unit
The mission of the Lory Student Center (LSC) is to serve as a student-centered organization at the heart of campus, providing programs and services that create an inclusive community and inspire active, engaged learning. As an auxiliary enterprise within the Division of Student Affairs, the Lory Student Center is a comprehensive student union recognized nationally as one of the leading university centers. The LSC annual operating budget is approximately $40 million. Nearly 125 full-time career staff and 650 student and hourly staff serve approximately 24,000 people entering the facility on a daily basis and hosts approximately 13,000 annual events and meetings. Areas within the Lory Student Center include the CSU Bookstore; Lory Dining Services, Marketing; Operations; Student Leadership, Involvement & Community Engagement (SLiCE); an extensive array of business and service partners; and Campus Activities.
Lory Dining Services exists to sell a variety of food and beverages, in a safe and sanitary environment and for the best possible value, to a diverse customer base at Colorado State University.

Position Summary
This position is a fully operational food service assistant position within the catering services at the Lory Student Center, CSU.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered an applicant for this position, candidates MUST have the following:
  • One full-time year of dining services experience within a commercial kitchen

Highly desired candidates will have many of the following:
  • Two years high-volume food service experience
  • Two years of catering delivery experience
  • Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) trained (current certification)
  • Possess a current ServSafe certification, or equivalent
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with and training others, within a customer service industry
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Demonstrated state service experience

Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
Position transfers product from production kitchen and storage areas to reservable space around the Lory Student Center. Identifying and gathering tools, equipment and service ware needed for events. Pickup and return items to Catering after events.

  • Under the supervision of the Catering Service Manager, position will lead a student staff that will be handling/preparing and delivering food. Duties will include assigning/delegating tasks and checking work for timeliness and completeness
  • Actively seek and implement professional development opportunities to enhance the organization’s value to the LSC
  • Connect staff to leadership development opportunities, including personal and professional training and skill development with an emphasis on DEI awareness, behaviors, skills and competencies
  • Foster an organizational culture that embraces the Principles of Community, including inclusion, integrity, respect, service, and social justice

Duty/Responsibility
  • Adherence to written departmental policies as well as state of Colorado liquor laws.
  • Serves as lead bartender for events where alcoholic beverage service is requested.
  • Make product and service recommendations to Catering Service Manager.
  • Setup jockey-boxes and ensure product is served to manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Maintains accurate records with point of sale and inventory management systems.
  • Follows cash handling procedures for alcohol service as outlined by Catering department.

  • Attend weekly manager meetings.
