The San Francisco Foundation (TSFF) supports up to 7 young Californian writers to work on their manuscripts. Joseph Jackson, James Phelan, and Mary Tanenbaum are the donors for this award. In addition to funding, winning manuscripts of awardees are permanently housed at The Bancroft Library at the University of California at Berkeley.


Eligibility & Requirements

These are awards are by nomination only; no applications. Submissions may be in any 1 of the following literary forms: 1) Fiction (novel or short stories). 2) Nonfictional prose. 3) Poetry. 4) Spoken word. Must be submission of an un-published manuscript in-progress. Must be California-born. OR, must currently be residing in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, or San Mateo County.


Academic Level

Postdoctoral Scholar.
