Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The College of Education is hiring a Grant Proposal Writer to be part of the Research Office team.
 
 The College of Education is a dynamic, thriving enterprise that cultivates a vibrant synergy between research and practice with a commitment to promote research and innovative pedagogy that leverages diversity and expands equity. The College’s outstanding faculty and 20 collaborative research centers and institutes strive to improve education practices in and outside of classrooms from kindergarten through college by exploring the intricacies of human development across the lifespan. 
 
 College faculty and students conduct research in almost every aspect of education and human development including literacy, learning disabilities, urban education, equitable educational opportunity, measurement and assessment, STEM education, and family and child relationships. The College of Education’s Research Office works throughout the College in strategically leading its research mission through supporting proposal development. 
 
 
 The Grant Proposal Writer’s primary responsibility will be to support College of Education faculty in scientific writing for grant applications to federal sponsors, foundations, state agencies, and internal university opportunities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: writing, proofreading, and editing research grant proposals and managing the proposal development process. Candidates should have demonstrated success in scientific writing, an enthusiasm for learning about new areas in research, and an interest in supporting the Research Office’s mission of uplifting all faculty research and building the research portfolio at the College of Education. 
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
> Minimum of 3 years of proposal development, scientific writing, editorial work, or other relevant experience.
 > Experience managing and coordinating complex writing projects.
 > Concrete experience with at least two large federal funding agencies and/or foundations  (e.g. Institute of Education Sciences (IES), National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Education, Spencer Foundation, or William T. Grant Foundation) with the ability to adapt to other sponsors as required.
 > Experience with writing grant budgets and budget narratives.
 > Experience working in research development or research funding related roles.
>Working knowledge of or strong interest in education research across P-20 and beyond and interdisciplinary approaches.
 >Excellent interpersonal skills to support a diverse group of scholars around interdisciplinary research and to engage with a broad range of colleagues and partners.
 >Openness to and knowledge of diverse worldviews and flexibility to align appropriate research questions, methodologies, and actions.
 >Commitment to diversity, equity, and justice, particularly in educational contexts
 >Excellent communication skills, with the ability to: 
    – initiate conversations about research funding;
    – explain complex grant requirements.
 >Excellent time management skills, including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects of diverse types and deadlines including quick turn-arounds.
 >Organized self-starter.
 >Team player.

  • Proven track record of planning and authoring winning proposals.
  • Subject matter expertise within education research.
  • Conversant in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing large, interdisciplinary research development or research funding programs.
  • Previous experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience with research development offices. 
  • Experience serving on funding agency review panels.
  • PhD in education or related field.

Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate
standard office equipment and keyboards. Much of the job is sedentary and will
require close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing text,
data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Substantial
repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers from computer
entry work. The incumbent will work primarily in an office environment. There are,
however, physical requirements to attend meetings in other buildings on campus.
