The George M. Bateman Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of George M. Bateman to support an outstanding student in the School of Molecular Sciences. Dr. Bateman was the first faculty member with a doctoral degree at Arizona State Teacher's College and was instrumental in the development of many physical science departments. The Bateman Physical Sciences Building is named after him. The George M. Bateman Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to an excellent Arizona-resident student in their first year in college studying chemistry, biochemistry or biophysics.
