The Gastwirth Graduate Student Loan Fellowship Program provides forgivable loans for doctoral students with an intention to pursue full-time employment for the betterment of sciences and humanities at an institution of higher education, non-profit organization or federal, state, county, or city governmental agency (EX NIH; USGS). Competitive candidates should have demonstrated financial need, strong scholastic achievement, and be able to articulate a plan to attain a post-degree position as stated above.

Loans have a set interest of 2% per year. Loans will enter repayment nine (9) months after graduation or enrollment less than half-time. Loans may be forgiven at a rate of 20% per year, for up to five years by providing proof of eligible employment annually.

Additional criteria: 

All applicants must have a FAFSA for the next academic year (the award year) on file at ASU at the time of application and must be enrolled in an on-campus immersion ASU doctoral program during the awarded timeframe.

Students can be awarded for a maximum of two (2) academic years.
