- Description
- We are seeking applicants for a PhD Graduate Research Assistantship at the School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University. The student will conduct research to estimate population level impacts of catch-and-release angling on Largemouth Bass and Alabama Bass stocks in mainstem reservoirs of the Coosa River using telemetry and conventional tagging approaches. The work will involve a mix of field work and computer modeling to answer research questions. The student will interact regularly with state agency personnel and the angling public, particularly fishing tournament anglers and organizers. Graduate students will have access to outstanding laboratory and field facilities at Auburn University. Our staff and students travel widely for professional activities and maintain a team approach to research. The students will be expected to develop a dissertation and complete required course work. The student will receive a stipend of $22,000/yr, waiver of both in-state and out-of-state tuition, and any required technical help. In addition, funds will cover research costs and travel to scientific meetings. The chosen applicants will be expected to begin research in the fall of 2021 and coursework in January 2022.
- Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications are an undergraduate degree in fisheries, the biological sciences, or statistics. Competitive applicants will: be interested in fisheries management and population dynamics; have experience operating boats and other field equipment; have an interest in quantitative aspects of fisheries including statistics and computer modeling; have strong written and verbal communication skills; and work well with others in a team setting. Applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements of the School.
