Candler School of Theology invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in Latina/o/x Studies to begin in the fall of 2022. Appointments can be made at any rank including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
The successful candidate will have a research focus within Latina/o/x Studies that is relevant to theological and religious studies. The discipline is open and includes but is not limited to ethics, sociology of religion, systematic theology, practical theology, preaching, and religious education. The candidate will hold a Ph.D. or Th.D. in the field by the time of appointment. The ability to contribute to a broad theological curriculum and situate one’s field within larger ecumenical, multi-faith, and global contexts is essential, and explicit scholarly engagement with issues of diversity across lines of gender, race, and culture is highly desirable. All applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a student body that is diverse with respect to race, gender, age, and theological perspective.
The appointee selected for this position will develop and teach courses in several of the degree programs of Candler School of Theology, including the MDiv, MTS, and DMin programs. They will have shared responsibility for introductory sequences and regular faculty rotation in the Contextual Education program. The appointee will have a research and publication agenda to equip them to participate in the Graduate Division of Religion in the Laney Graduate School of Emory University. In addition to teaching and research, faculty members of Candler School of Theology are committed to service, both within the school and in the larger church and community.
