Description
Houston Wilderness (HW) seeks an intern with excellent writing and organizational skills to write, submit and track various funding proposals for programming and HW's Collaborative Grant Organizing (CGO) program. This position is mostly remote, with some in-person meetings. Job responsibilities include: 1) Provide grant writing support through the drafting and submission of funding proposals to various foundations and corporations for HW’s operations and specific HW program funding, 2) Provide grant writing support for HW’s CGO program through the drafting and submission of CGO proposals to various federal and state agencies, 3) Work closely with the Vice President and pertinent other HW staff to develop, write and submit various grant proposals, 4) Engage in materials review, research and online/hard copy submission of HW and CGO grant proposals, 5) Track federal, state and regional grant opportunities, maintain a schedule of due dates for submission of grants, and regularly update a “status spreadsheet” on all HW and CGO grants submitted, pending, awarded and to be submitted. 6) Write and submit acknowledgment letters and grant impact reports to funders, 7) Research and apply for new potential grant opportunities ***IMPORTANT: In addition to a brief cover letter and resume, applicants are asked to please provide a 1-2 page writing sample to showcase your writing skills.***
Qualifications
- Excellent writing skills - Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe software - Good communication skills - email, letters, etc. - Strong attention to detail - Basic understanding of budgets is helpful. - A general knowledge of grant tracking databases, such as GrantHub, is helpful but not necessary.
