Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

What You Will Do

We are seeking a highly motivated and learning focused R&D Electrical Engineering Undergraduate Student to join our team! The Space Electronics and Signal Processing group (ISR-4) is seeking undergraduate electrical or computer engineering students looking for summer internships and/or internships during the academic year with interest in digital, RF or analog design, development, and deployment as well as radiation effects on electrical components. Space instrument systems designed, built, and deployed by ISR-4 have unique engineering challenges, including surviving the harsh environment of space, operating autonomously for years, and acquiring data from new types of detectors and measurement systems. You will work in a highly creative and dynamic research and development environment. For more information, see the ISR-4: Space Electronics and Signal Processing home page.

The Space Electronics and Signal Processing group (ISR-4) in the Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division ( space.lanl.gov ) designs, develops, and flies highly innovative electronic systems for space payloads that detect nuclear detonations and nonproliferation signatures around the world. Working closely with technicians, mechanical engineers, software engineers and space scientists, we have developed instrument electronic systems for many DOE and NASA missions including: detection payloads on GPS satellites, ChemCam on the Mars Curiosity Rover, NASA’s Cassini mission to Saturn, Mars Odyssey mission to Mars and SuperCam and SHERLOC instruments on NASA’s Mars 2020 rover (Perseverance). We are currently developing the electronics for next generation nuclear detection and nonproliferation systems and many other systems. The Projects are executed through a close interaction between all disciplines of engineers, technicians, and scientists which fosters a highly creative and dynamic research and development environment. Projects within ISR division are developed from concept to operational support after launch or field deployment.
