What You Will Do
Put your experimental geochemistry talents to good use by joining our team! The Radgeochemistry team in The Earth Systems Observation Group (EES-14) within the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening for a for a researcher with a background in high temperature/pressure experimental geochemistry. You will work as a member of the Radionuclide Geochemistry team investigating transport phenomena and geochemistry at high temperatures/pressure for application to key LANL missions, including national and energy security. You will work collaboratively with a team of scientists and should bring your enthusiasm for laboratory work and creative problem solving/innovation. You will be expected to contribute to project deliverables and peer-reviewed manuscripts, and present your work at program reviews and technical conferences. This is a 1-year limited term appointment, with the option to convert to a permanent staff member depending on performance and funding availability.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Comprehensive understanding of high pressure and high temperature geological systems.
Hands-on experience operating laboratory hydrothermal systems
Record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
Communication skills as evidenced by publications and oral presentations at conferences
Cover letter should explicitly address how you meet each of the minimum requirements and any of the desired skills, if applicable.
Experience with fluid inclusion measurements and isotopic characterization of trace elements
Experience modeling transport phenomena and elemental fractionation
Experience with or strong interest in thermodynamic and geochemical modeling
Enthusiasm for new science
The ability to work through problems using innovation/creative problem solving
Experience or exposure to proposal development and writing
Education: Master’s degree in geology, chemistry, or closely-related field that has been completed within the past 3 years--with a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent--and have not been accepted into another master’s or PhD. Program.
