Dr. Jane C. Hurley was an inspiring person who left an indelible mark on the field of public health. She was an accomplished academic who completed her PhD in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences with a Certificate in Geographical Information Systems in 2019 at ASU under the mentorship of Dr. Marc Adams. Throughout her career, Dr. Hurley's research interests centered around how built environments and neighborhood walkability relate to physical activity, with the aim of making walking and cycling safer, easier, and more accessible for people of all ages. Dr. Hurley's passion for public health extended beyond her academic pursuits. She was a dedicated advocate for active living and a beloved member of the academic community. Her love of cycling to work, music, travel, and soccer, coupled with her commitment to mentoring students, made her an inspiration to all who knew her.
To honor Dr. Hurley's legacy and academic interests, her family has established the Dr. Jane C. Hurley Scholarship. This scholarship will benefit first and second-year doctoral students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours within the College of Health Solutions whose research focuses on environmental influences of physical activity and nutrition leading to improved health outcomes. Dr. Hurley's academic interests and dedication to mentoring students will be remembered through this scholarship for years to come.
