General Information
 The College of Education at James Madison University invites applications for the College of Education Doctoral Fellowship in Educator Preparation.  Selected candidates will comprise a cohort hire of up to two outstanding doctoral fellows for up to a two-year, job-embedded fellowship.  Term of employment will be for academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, with potential for continued employment as tenure-track faculty thereafter. 
The College offers high-quality undergraduate, Master’s, and post-baccalaureate degree programs. College academic units include Departments of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education; Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities; Learning, Technology and Leadership Education; Middle, Secondary and Math Education; and Military Science. The College currently has more than 270 full and part-time faculty, 1,300 students in teacher licensure programs, and over 30 initial licensure programs. All teacher preparation programs are currently accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Virginia Department of Education. In addition to teacher preparation, the College also houses 200 cadets in Army Reserve Officer Training Corps and approximately 250 students in the Human Resource Development minor, a minor in Educational Media,  Adult Education/Human Resource Development, Educational Leadership, Educational Technology, Spanish Language and Culture, Teacher Leadership,  and TESOL. The College of Education actively collaborates with partners across campus to provide students with a suite of licensure options in the arts, humanities, mathematics, sciences, and social sciences.
Eligibility requirements include: Successful completion of terminal degree requirements, including dissertation, by the conclusion of the two-year fellowship period. Successful annual evaluations aligned with academic unit standards, including excellence in teaching and service, with promise for scholarship potential. Duties and Responsibilities
Fellows will work in several interconnected areas including: 1) educational justice with increased attention to more equitable and just access for all students; 2) educator preparation for increased diversity in the K-12 landscape; 3) teacher leadership and professional development as part of national efforts to build professional educator capacity and improve teacher retention. Each fellow will be appointed in one of the following academic units: Early, Elementary, and Reading Education; Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities; Learning, Technology, and Leadership Education; Middle, Secondary, and Math Education. Upon successful completion of the College of Education Doctoral Fellowship in Educator Preparation, the position may be considered for a transition from a two-year RTA (Revolving Term Appointment) appointment to tenure-track. 
Qualifications
Applicants must currently be enrolled in a  Ph.D. or Ed.D. program in a relevant education discipline or field. Candidates will have evidence of a potential strong research and teaching portfolio. We are especially interested in candidates who can demonstrate a clear commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. 
Conditions of Employment
Per the Governor’s Executive Directive #18, new JMU employees upon hire must disclose to the University Health Center their COVID-19 vaccination status. Unvaccinated employees are required to be tested weekly. 
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. 
 
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
