Job Description:
Position Summary
The Diversity Center on the Chicago campus serves as a cultural, educational, and social unit dedicated to supporting students and faculty, as well as promotes cultural awareness, competence, and understanding of diversity.
The Diversity Center Doctoral Fellow will implement the mission and vision of The Diversity Center, as well as provide campus-level coordination of programs and services that support building an environment of mutual respect and inclusion where all individuals feel valued for who they are and what they can contribute. The Fellow will spearhead efforts and activities that foster a supportive environment for students to learn and grow as individuals and active members of the academic community.
The Diversity Center Doctoral Fellow collaborates closely with other Academic Affairs staff members including Campus Deans, Director of Career Center, Executive Director of Community Partnerships, Human Resources, Student Support and others.
Job Responsibilities
Campus Programming
Develop, advance, evaluate, and maintain campus-level equity programming for students, faculty, and staff. This includes:
Creating, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining co-curricular activities that raise the community’s consciousness regarding issues of equity and inclusion.
Creating opportunities for students across TCSPP to serve as fellows in the areas of equity and inclusion.
Directing the fellowship selection process, including advertisement and selection of the subsequent Diversity Center fellow.
Participate as an active member of MDAC, providing feedback, perspective and input to the committee as The Diversity Center Doctoral Fellow.
Partner with Student Life & Events to create, deliver, assess, and modify cutting-edge equity-focused programming for all members of the TCSPP community.
Collaborate with TCSPP’s Title IX team to support the delivery of bystander intervention training and related seminars.
Consulting and Liaising
Consult with MDAC to ensure synergy, collaboration, and idea sharing.
Consult and collaborate with the National Center for Teaching and Learning on equity-focused faculty and staff development.
Center Management
Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all programming of The Diversity Center on the Chicago campus including:
developing co-curricular activities to raise the overall school’s consciousness regarding issues of diversity and multiculturalism;
supervising, directing and evaluating the work and contributions of student workers;
developing and manage partnerships with academic departments and other academic support areas;
developing and monitoring The Diversity Center budget and expenses
directing the fellowship selection process to include advertisement and selection of subsequent fellow;
Providing consultation to other departments and administration about diversity-related student feedback
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved populations
Understanding of and competency in critical equity theories, identity development and student development theories within higher education.
Strong administrative, managerial, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Advanced project management skills, including the ability to work independently on projects of moderate-to-high complexity with minimal supervision.
Understanding of co-curricular and programmatic development within the landscape of higher education from an interdisciplinary framework.
Ability to plan and execute projects, develop milestones and meet specific deadlines.
Ability to interface at all levels of the organization and with external constituents.
Professional and personal commitment to values of equity and advocacy.
Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative analytical methods relevant to program evaluation.
Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication.
Minimum Qualifications
Working toward advanced degree (PhD or PsyD) in relevant field
Direct experience, understanding and engagement with issues impacting students of underrepresented status in higher education.
