Director of Scholarships, Grants and Programs

This Foundation Leadership role is an essential foundation role and is responsible for providing management, strategy, oversight and administration for Bellevue College Foundation (BCF) scholarships, foundation grants and program support. This position is responsible for strategy around a rapidly growing scholarships program, designing and implementing additional scholarship cycles, increasing grant support to our campus and creating a best practice model for program support.

The Director of Scholarships, Grants and Programs role works in the BCF office and will report to the Executive Director. This position will have primary responsibility for scholarship strategy and implementation, long-term strategy for grants in the foundation, increasing program support on campus and creating best practice models for all responsibilities under this position. This position will have responsibility for coverage of some supervisor duties during absences and will manage staff in the future.

Responsibilities include overseeing all scholarship activities, a new grants program and program staff, manage and make decisions on the appropriate platforms for execution, be part of the Foundation leadership team and provide some supervisor coverage during absences.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, this role will also work with the Board of Directors for the foundation, specifically supporting the scholarship and program committee.

Position Salary Range: $90,705/year - $131,522/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $100,909/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

The Institutional Advancement (IA) Division of Bellevue College works across the full academic enterprise to solidify a multi-faceted culture of brand awareness, philanthropy, and internal and external engagement. IA supports the College's mission by increasing awareness of, advocacy for, engagement in, and giving to Bellevue College. As part of the IA division, the Marketing & Communications department is responsible for stewarding the BC brand and driving the college's marketing strategy to increase awareness, support enrollment, and drive community engagement.

Administrative

  • Create strategy, oversight and implementation of our comprehensive grant program
  • Create foundation policies and procedures that align with national best practice to be used by the board, foundation and supporting partners for awarding
  • Work with the board scholarship and programs committee to create strategic plan for additional awarding cycles, improved application processes, policy and procedure review cycles and improved implementation practices
  • Provide training and advising to the campus around applications, awards, processes and the opportunities to everyone on campus
  • Create, develop and implement a long-term grant strategy for the foundation
  • Remain current on best practice, national policy and the political environment through self-directed professional development, so as to ensure our compliance in our awarding programs with state and federal regulations
  • Collaborate with the financial aid office to ensure smooth sharing of information between programs
  • Create and implement effective promotion of foundation scholarship program to students, parents, high school partners and others by working across multiple campus divisions, including but not limited to Student Central, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Diversity and Inclusion and academic departments
  • Ensure and oversee an effective and equitable selection process for scholarship recipients
  • Create and implement communication plan to applicants and awardees with foundation leadership team
  • Responsible for smooth execution of scholarship reviews and read week

Budgetary and Financial          

  • Responsible for creation of the awarding budget in partnership with Finance Director
  • Presents awarding plan to finance committee of the board and supports reasoning for grant amount
    eate and analyze quarterly reports to the foundation finance committee on scholarship awards, plans and changes made to process or application
  • Manages awarding to ensure it aligns with the budgeted amounts
  • Determines amount and plan to re-award if awards are unclaimed or students choose not to use them
  • Create and analyze quarterly reports to the foundation finance committee on scholarship awards, plans and changes made to process or application

Management of staff

  • Manage the Foundation Coordinator in the processing and managing of the foundation safety net process. Manage and supervise all scholarship, grant or award staff

Other Duties          

  • Support social media efforts and web site, as appropriate
  • Support foundation events and activities, as needed
  • Responsibility for coverage of some supervisor duties during absences
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as business, public administration, marketing, education, or communications)Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in scholarship or program funding management
  • Effective project management and organizational skills including being able to plan ahead, meet deadlines and goals while simultaneously managing multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Effective verbal, written interpersonal communication skills while maintaining professionalism to interact appropriately with volunteers and donors of all levels
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data
  • Experience with scholarship awarding on-line platforms
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and proactively
  • Demonstrated understanding of Bellevue College Foundation mission
  • Demonstrated skills with AwardSpring
  • Experience working in higher education
