Position Summary:

Director of Scholarship Management is responsible for management of institutional scholarship programs that support Arkansas Tech University's comprehensive enrollment objectives by working with Academics, Student Affairs, and various administrative departments and committees to optimize enrollment impacts to net revenue of institutional funding sources. The Director coordinates with the Office of Admissions, the Office of Student Financial Aid, and other offices and departments to ensure effective promulgation of the institutional scholarship program. This position uses a knowledge of Arkansas Tech University's policies and formal procedures in coordination with state and federal aid regulations (through partnership coordination with Financial Aid and Admissions) to ensure compliance with those policies and procedures.  The Director is responsible for budget projections and tracking of scholarship expenditures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinates and directs an Assistant Director of Scholarship Management in daily functions and responsibilities of managing a comprehensive institutional scholarship program.

Participates in various ATU committees providing competent feedback and contributions to perpetuate various university objectives.

Understands and builds working knowledge about revenue impacts as it relates to the student discounting model in coordination with Institutional Research.

Supports Admissions and other Student Affairs programs in helping design web pages and media pages to effectively communicate scholarship information to students, parents, high school counselors, and other by coordinating with the partnering divisions (i.e., Admissions, Financial Aid, Honors College, and Deans of all colleges).

Actively contribute feedback and information to divisions developing student communication programs in relation to recruitment and enrollment initiatives.

Reviews and contributes to yearly award and acceptance forms/letters consistent with scholarship and other University policies and procedures.

Develops annual institutional scholarship budget projections in cooperation with Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Budget, and Institutional Research based on historical rates of retention, anticipated enrollments, and other factors.

Responsible for monitoring and reporting scholarship budget compliance and review.

Helps to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations by coordinating with Financial Aid in preparation of required reports.

Adheres to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and State of Arkansas rules communicated by the Athletics Director or their designee.  Compliance related to dealings with student-athletes and/or Athletics Department personnel and reports any concerns or possible violations of those guidelines to the immediate supervisor.

Remains competent and current by self-directed professional reading, developing profession contacts with colleagues, attending professional development course, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Vice President of Administration & Finance.

Serves as liaison between the Scholarship Management division to other areas that are complimentary to scholarship student-focused services.

Participates as a directorship member to the Administration and Finance direct reports team.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of an administrative, managerial, or professional business field such as accounting, auditing, financial management, other business areas (i.e., Human Resources, Payroll, etc.). Knowledge permits the employee to complete assignments by applying established methods to recurring types of projects/problems susceptible to well-documented precedents or to schedule, plan, and carry out precedented projects. Alternatively, knowledge at this level might also permit the employee to carry out precedented projects requiring considerable experience in specific areas within higher education, Knowledge at this level is typically acquired through a combination of education and/or training and experience that includes a requirement for educational requirements with significant work experience.

Support interactions with others that are somewhat unstructured.  The purpose may be to influence or motivate others, to obtain information, or to control situations and resolve problems. Interactions may be with individuals or groups of co-workers, students, or the general public, may be moderately unstructured, and may involve persons who hold differing goals and objectives.  Individuals at this level often act as a liaison between groups with a focus on solving particular unstructured problems.  Interactions at this level require considerable interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflict.

The employee operates under general supervision expressed in terms of programs goals and objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Administrative supervision is given through statements of overall program or project objectives and available resources.  Administrative guidelines are relatively comprehensive and the employee need only to fill in gaps in interpretation and adapt established methods to perform recurring activities.  In unforeseen situations, the employee must interpret inadequate or incomplete guidelines, develop plans, and initiate new methods to complete assignments based on those interpretations.  Assignments are normally related to function, but the work requires many different processes and methods applied to an established administrative approach, or incomplete or conflicting data.  The employee must interpret and refine methods to complete assignments.  Characteristic jobs at this level may involve directing single-purpose programs or performing complex, but precedented, technical or professional work.

Work involves providing significant support services to others both within and outside of the department that substantially influences decision-making processes.  Work activities are complex and others rely on the accuracy and reliability of the information, analysis, or advice to make decisions.  Work activities have a direct, but shared, impact on further processes or services, affect the overall efficiency and image of the department, and may have material impact on costs or service quality within the variable University areas. Incumbents may be responsible for identifying areas of need and for developing proposals that request funding to fulfill those needs.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of experience in the field or Associate's degree plus five (5) years of experience in the field. Knowledge of business systems such as Ellucian Banner, Microsoft Office, and other office systems. OTHER JOB-RELATED EDUCATION, EQUIVOLENT SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND THE REVIEW COMMITTEE. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Five (5) years of progressive higher education experience within areas of budgeting, accounting, student accounts, and direct experience in related higher education driven software programs, specifically, Ellucian Banner.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

Ability to view computer screens for long periods. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and non-verbal communications. Ability to arrive to work on time, if not early and stay late as the situation dictates. Able to accommodate schedules to include occasional work hours extending beyond regular schedules to accommodate key deadlines such as budget development. Ability to travel as required in state and out, including driving, flying and public transportation systems. Remote work possible and that complies with Arkansas Tech University's remote work policy.
