Summary of School of Allied Health and Dental Program:
The School of Allied Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage is one of the largest divisions within the College of Health and encompasses the following programs: Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting, Fire and Emergency Services, Pharmacy Technology, Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapist Assistant, Dietetics & Nutrition, and Surgical Technology.
The Dental program prepares students to become Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists. Students graduate with the knowledge and skills required for entry into high demand careers in the healthcare industry. The Dental program makes an important contribution to the College of Health’s mission to advance the health and well being of people and communities.
The School of Allied Health also operates a dental clinic that offers opportunities for students, staff, and community members to receive limited dental care.
The College of Health has a commitment to innovation and flexibility insuring high quality education, and training is available to all who have the ability and interest to pursue an education or profession.
Assists Dental Clinic Administrative Assistant with Front Desk reception duties including but not limited to greeting students, faculty, and staff, scheduling appointments, dental patient check in and check out for both Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Clinics. Screens phone calls and disseminates information to appropriate dental faculty or staff. Follows HIPPA regulations at all times.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work under general direction and make independent decisions as necessary.
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills, including a high level of phone etiquette and in-person reception skills.
- Confidentiality and professionalism is required at all times.
- Effective and timely communication skills.
- Attention to detail and timeliness in completion of assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of databases and computer programs.
- Basic fiscal skills.
- Ability to use computer scheduling programs.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
Education/Training:
High school diploma or GED and enrolled in UA System.
Experience:
Prior work in an office setting preferred but not required.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for student employment an applicant must:
a) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment, or
b) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d) An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
Acceptance into the pool does not constitute an offer of employment.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Ability to work during the day and some evenings.
Hourly Rate: $10.50
