Job Description
The Custodial Worker maintains a clean, sanitary and safe environment in the Ohio Union, a 320,000 square foot facility serving students, staff and guests of the university; sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes, and renews floor surfaces; cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets; washes walls, windows and light fixtures; cleans, dusts, empties trash receptacles; removes and hangs drapes; in coordination with FOD, helps to maintain outside perimeter of the building and outdoor event space, including the removal of snow and ice; changes light bulbs; reports need for equipment repair; reports evidence of fire or damage, illegal entry and theft; checks in supplies and stocks supplies closets; picks up, sorts and disposes of trash and food waste; maintains equipment; could potentially operate carpet extractor, floor burnisher/buffer, walk behind or ride-on auto scrubber, and /or various other types of cleaning equipment; maintains cleanliness of restroom facilities; assists with event equipment and furniture moves and set ups; maintains high levels of cleanliness and service during events in the building; second shift work hours will be from  3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; weekend and holiday work is required; This position will be primarily responsible for the Ohio Union in the West District but may be required to work in any Environmental Services department/building from district to district per operational needs; This position may also be assigned project work and/or special assignments.  The Custodial Worker must successfully complete and pass the CMI Basic Module training and exam during their probationary period-failure to do so may result in probationary removal.   
 

Duties Description

60% Maintains cleanliness of facilities and restrooms; cleans; dusts; empties trash receptacles; picks up, sorts and disposes of trash and food waste; cleans tables and chairs as needed.   
 

25% Mops, strips, waxes, polishes, and renews floor surfaces; cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets; washes walls, windows and light fixtures; in coordination with FOD, helps to maintain outside perimeter of the building and outdoor event space, including the removal of snow and ice; changes light bulbs; could potentially operate carpet extractor, floor burnisher/buffer, walk behind or ride-on auto scrubber, and /or various other types of cleaning equipment; assists with event equipment and furniture moves and set ups; maintains high levels of cleanliness and service during events in the building.   
 

10% Maintains equipment; checks in supplies and stocks supplies closets; keeps all janitor closets and equipment clean and orderly.   
 

5% Assists with varied clean up during special events; may be assigned any of the above duties and/or may perform related work as required; performs other duties as assigned.

Desired: Experience (1 year) of institutional or large facility cleaning; experience (1 year) in operation of carpet extractor, floor burnisher/buffer, walk behind or ride-on auto scrubber, and /or various other types of cleaning equipment; ability to lift and/or move furniture; ability to lift 25 to 75 pounds.


Additional Information:

This position has a starting pay rate of $15.00 per hour.

Work performed during second shift (4 or more consecutive hours past 3:00 p.m.) is also eligible for an additional $1.50 per hour shift differential.
