What You Will Do

The Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for an individual with a Master’s degree in Earth Science, Physical Science, Engineering, Applied Math or a related STEM field. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary modeling and observational team to work on projects involving model or data experiments and model development related to climate change, ecosystem dynamics and renewable energy resources. You will contribute to collaborative projects with a focus on shared outcomes, and make contributions to publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences. The position would be a one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension to two years.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Research experience in the Earth Sciences

  • Experience compiling and manipulating large datasets

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the proven ability to understand and present research results clearly.

Education/Experience : A Master’s Degree in a STEM field. Eligibility is limited to students who have completed a master’s degree within the past 3 years, and have not yet been accepted into another master’s program or a PhD program.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience programming in either Python, R, Fortran, Matlab, or a similar language

  • Experience with eco-hydrology field-based observations or modeling

  • Experience with remote sensing

  • Experience with energy resource modeling

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
