CDC Office and Location: An ORISE Fellowship opportunity is available in the Plans, Training, Exercise, and Evaluation Branch (PTEE), Division of Emergency Operations (DEO) within the Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The CDC is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same. Research Project: This project with the Plans Team of the PTEE Branch will provide an opportunity to learn about public health emergency preparedness and response and train in the development and revision of public health emergency management response plans. Under the guidance of a mentor, the ORISE fellow will assist with the preparation and delivery of a training course that focuses on contingency and crisis planning in public health emergency response activities. Additionally, the ORISE fellow will assist a mentor with development, piloting, and implementation of evaluation tools for the course. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on training in mixed methods evaluation to assess the outcome and impact of public health preparedness and response planning activities and training. This includes an opportunity to use qualitative data to develop trend reports, including thematic analysis, of agency planning capabilities to better inform the Planners Course 101. The fellow will additionally have opportunities to train in the development of evidence-informed presentations and scientific publications. Learning Objectives: This fellowship will offer the opportunity to learn about and obtain hands-on experience in the following activities: 1. Apply principles, laws, regulations, and directives of emergency management preparedness and response for domestic and global public health emergencies to the development of preparedness and response planning products and planning evaluation tools. 2. Design and develop curriculum in collaboration with subject matter experts. Develop and tailor existing Planners Course 101 learning products (e.g., presentation slides, practical scenarios, applied learning activities, handouts). 3. Assess user needs and analyze content and working environments to identify appropriate instructional strategies and design engaging and effective educational material for the Planners Course 101. 4. Evaluate the effectiveness of public health emergency planning education and training material. Analyze quantitative and qualitative evaluation data to write summary reports with actionable recommendations. 5. Appointment Length: The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds. Level of Participation: The appointment is full-time. Participant Stipend: The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Citizenship Requirements: This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens only. ORISE Information: This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date. Preferred Skills: - Experience or knowledge in public health preparedness and response - Experience or knowledge in developing and designing education and training material - Experience or knowledge in developing, disseminating, and communicating evaluation data - Strong oral and written communication skills for various audiences - Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products - Experience or knowledge in online survey and database tools like REDCap - Experience or knowledge in virtual training and communications platforms
