Job Description:

The Athletics Student Success Coach serves as a member of the Athletic Department and works in close coordination with the Student Success Center.  Supports student athletes, athletics game management, and is responsible for sports information at Blue Mountain Community College. This position provides student success guidance and support to student athletes seeking a degree or certification all programs of study including Career Technical Education, College Preparatory and General Education/Transfer. This position meets with students individually and in groups to provide developmental, intrusive, and career advising. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of student support resources intended to promote persistence, progression, completion, transfer and employment. This includes but is not limited to new student athlete onboarding and orientation as well as academic progress checking, study hall, and communication with faculty/staff regarding student's progression.  As lead for BMCC Sports Information, this role is responsible for compliance related data and video uploads, communications and promotion via a variety of media, including but not limited to Athletics website, media releases, feature stories, infographics, game day graphics, various publishing platforms, relevant social media applications, and speaking to the media as instructed by the Director of Athletics.  This position is expected to perform all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Vision and Strategic Plan. This position is expected to perform consistently within a team-based model and actively participates as a member of assigned college teams and committees and conforms to the college's guiding principles.

Essential Functions

Intentionally and proactively works with students to determine academic and career goal, assuring program of study progression and goal completion.

Monitors and records academic progress of student athletes, maintaining consistent and confidential records of individual student data. 

Assists the Athletics Department with onboarding orientation of new student athletes as well as ongoing eligibility tracking and reporting.

Works pro-actively with all Athletic Coaches in developing student success supports including study halls for all athletic programs.

Provides advising support to additional student populations as needed based on enrollment and programming opportunities.

This position also provides focused academic support to additional student populations as assigned by the Director of the Student Success Center

Develops, coordinates and integrates resources and initiatives that promote and enhance student success. This includes but is not limited to advising website, educational planning worksheets, early alert systems, new student orientation/experience and first year/generation programming.

Responsible for Game Day graphics, media, video, stats for Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and assisting with Rodeo stats as needed. 

Manage and complete all statistical data entries each home game to ensure that Athletics and the College stay in compliance with Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) standards and requirements.

Ensure proper set up and operation of video recording equipment. Including upload of all recording of games to Krossover to remain in compliance.

Collect information and coordinate team photos for each player from all teams to provide biological information for media outlets, media guides, rosters, and athletic website.

Responsible for the technical functions of the athletics website not limited to maintaining constant updates to the calendar, bios, stats, article development, press release for athletics, photos at all games.

Manage Athletic Website, content, scores, roster, pictures, videos, updates in coordination with the Assistant Athletic Director.

Promote all athletic programs with coordination with public relations/marketing department to local/area media using guidelines established by the college.

Continuously update and post on all Athletic Department social media accounts.

Respond to media requests for specific news articles or information.

Contributes to the development of program goals and measurement criteria.

Provides the Director with the information necessary for assessment, strategic planning and continuous improvement purposes.

Apply and adhere to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of comprehensive advising best practices, within the community college environment.

Knowledge of NWAC eligibility criteria as well as the NIRA eligibility criteria. Knowledge of collegiate athletics.

Ability to work confidentially with individuals and to conduct workshops, seminars, and trainings.

Strong knowledge of college student support services and resources.  Ability to make proper referrals.

Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.

Ability to assess student need and discern best course of action.

Ability to lead the Sports Information area in the development and creation of content strategy and implementation.

Knowledge of video editing, creating, and production Ability to write press releases for sports programs.

Ability to manage people, projects, and timelines effectively. Understanding of basic supervisory responsibilities.

Working knowledge and understanding of community college mission, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.

Knowledge and proficiency in computers, especially Microsoft Office applications. Ability to leverage technology for optimum efficiency and end user satisfaction.

Possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to meet deadlines and with attention to detail.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in education, social work, communications or related field and three (3) years of related experience. An Associate's degree with (3) or more years of related experience may be substituted if the combination is deemed equivalent. 

Three years' experience working in a student services capacity within the post-secondary education environment, preferably admissions, advising, athletics, career coaching or outreach.

Experience in graphic art/design, marketing or public relations. Expertise in PhotoShop, InDesign, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite software with proven skill in the area of graphic design.

Ability to lead the Sports Information area in the development and creation of content strategy and implementation. Knowledge of video editing, creating, and production
Proficient and experienced with sports stats technology, preferably PrestoStats.

This position will have knowledge of NWAC eligibility criteria as well as the NIRA eligibility criteria.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Previous experience effectively working within a team.

Previous experience effectively facilitating group presentations and training.

This position will provide training and outreach regarding the unique demands on a student athlete and eligibility requirements to the BMCC outlying centers. This position will also work in collaboration with the Athletics, Outreach, and Student Life areas for athletic program promotion purposes.
Serves on college-wide committees as assigned.

Must be able to work flexible, varying hours, as necessary.

Will require travel - a current driver's license is required.

May serve as an NWAC Commissioner if appointed.

Salary: $39,215- $43,000 DOE
