The Associate Director of Research and Scholarship is part of the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE) that supports faculty in all aspects of their careers, including research and scholarly writing, teaching and pedagogy, and mentorship and career development.
Under the direction of the Director for Research and Scholarly Writing, will be responsible for shaping and facilitating a comprehensive program of support and resources for all Emory faculty in the areas of grant-seeking, idea development, and proposal development.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Serves as a key contact for Emory faculty in STEM fields for support in the areas of research and scholarship.
- Grant Proposal Development Pursues proactive outreach to assist faculty seeking grants.
- Develops a list of potential funding sources and connects them directly with faculty and their interests.
- Develops and presents workshops and other forms of targeted support for idea and proposal development for faculty seeking both private and federal funding sources.
- Explores the possibility of setting up a separate fund on Scholarly Writing and Publishing (SWAP) Fund model just for grant writing, with a list of vetted/recommended grant writers.
- Coordinates a working group with the Office of Foundation Relations, the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Success and the CFDE to identify funding opportunities, match faculty with opportunity, and provide support to faculty on idea development and proposal development.
- STEM Faculty Support Taps and leverages the CFDE's SWAP grants for non-book fields.
- Promotes stories of successful SWAP grants that also demonstrate range of fields and uses.
- Develops programmatic support for clinical track faculty for writing tasks related to moving into research roles (such as writing a paper abstract, putting a poster together).
- Partners with the School of Medicine Office of Faculty Advancement, Leadership, and Inclusion to expand their Research Survival Skills workshops to both clinical and basic scientists.
- Taps and leverages National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity resources for STEM faculty.
- General Support for Research and Scholarship In partnership with the Director for Research and Scholarly Writing, helps faculty navigate the broad landscape of support and resources for research, scholarship, and funding offered at Emory.
- Establishes a Study in a Second Discipline program for faculty to support growth of interdisciplinary research.
- Serves on CFDE and university committees as appropriate.
- Prepares program assessment and outcome reports for Office of the Provost.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field and four years of grant writing or related experience, preferably in STEM fields.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and launch new programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or other advanced degree in a related field. Previous experience in higher education faculty development.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with faculty in a top-tier R-01 research institution.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
