Summary

The research faculty member will support the strategic plan and educational research missions of the Division of Medical Education Research and Scholarship in the Office of the Senior Dean, Baylor College of Medicine.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship, the research faculty member offers consultations on educational research and scholarship, supports the process of research dissemination, and engages in medical education research projects as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship. This role is primarily meant to mentor and develop the careers of BCM faculty and trainees in medical education research and scholarship.


Duties

Research Activities (60%)

  • Collaborates/mentors on the design, implementation, and analysis of studies to measure the effectiveness of specific interventions/innovations in the medical education process.
  • Collaborates/mentors in the writing and submission of research manuscripts and conference abstracts.
  • Supports grant activity.
  • Provides guidance on how to draft and approach educational research protocols for the Institutional Review Board.
  • Leads project team meetings, including a review of action plans and tracking of project milestones.
  • Serves as a key expert resource for faculty, staff and trainees seeking consultation (e.g. research designs, models/theory/frameworks, and statistical approaches) on various aspects of educational research and scholarship.
  • Performs statistical analyses and reporting.
  • Works closely with the Assistant Dean to coordinate or manage the division's initiatives and project plans, project milestones and deliverables.

 

Curriculum Development & Teaching (30%)

  • Creates resources/guides to educate faculty, staff and trainees on medical education research and scholarship.
  • Develops and educates through electives, workshops, and trainings related to medical education research and scholarship.
  • Mentor trainees and student research assistants.

 

Communications & Documentation (10%)

  • Develops engaging educational research content for the Division website and social media feeds.
  • Maintains the Division's website, social media feed (e.g., Twitter), and drafts Division communications to broad audiences.
  • Manages library of high-priority funding opportunities for education research as well as research bibliography database.
  • Tracks research productivity.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum doctorate degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other relevant discipline.
  • 3 years related work experience required on medical education research.

 

Well qualified candidates will have following:

  • Demonstrated skills in research and administrative software applications, including SPSS or other statistical software; web-based applications; survey software including Qualtrics and SurveyMonkey; Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with bibliographic software such as Zotero, RefWorks etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative & qualitative research methods, assessment and evaluation, and quantitative methodology (e.g., statistics).
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate a large number of projects simultaneously with minimum supervision.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications.
  • May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
  • Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Communicates in a professional and timely manner.
  • Accessible to faculty and trainees for consultations on a timely manner.
  • This role necessitates collaborating with multiple stakeholders and strong organizational skills including managing simultaneous priorities.
