Summary of Job Duties:

The College Access Initiative Mentor (ACT Academy Mentor) will work in conjunction with the professional staff of the College Access Initiative and the Multicultural Center to facilitate programs with high school students during residential summer programs and academic year activities.
ACT Academy is a 4 day, 3 night program that invites students to tackle the ACT test and answer questions regarding college admissions, academics, and campus life. Students will get to work on test-taking skills, learn about the many exciting opportunities the University of Arkansas offers, stay in a residence hall and experience campus life.
Mentors will build rapport with high school participants that may continue in a structured fashion beyond the summer programs. You will be responsible for: helping groups of students navigate campus and getting them to all program events and activities; supervising small and large groups; facilitating small group discussions and activities; ensuring safety and fostering a sense of belonging for all participants.
Mentors will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, team building, group facilitation, and develop an understanding of risk management.
ACT Academy Mentors are residential positions with housing and meals provided for the duration of the program, and around-the-clock responsibility during program dates.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:


  • Students must be in good academic standing with University 

  • Must live in residential hall during program dates  

  • Must adhere to all University policies regarding minors and Housing Conference Services 

  • Be available to work: June 4-June 10, 2022 and/or July 10-July 14, 2022  


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Strong ability to assist/advise prospective U of A students 

  • Strong communication, mentoring, problem-solving skills  

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment 

  • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this position

Salary Information:


Period Activity Pay $600 for each week of ACT Academy
