Access & Wellness Student Advocate

Position Summary:

The Access & Wellness Student Advocate position is a full-time remote employment opportunity reporting to the Student Care Manager within the division of Student Affairs. The Access & Wellness Student Advocate provides ongoing student support, addressing behavioral and psycho-social needs of a diverse, non-traditional online student body through training, collaboration, and advocacy.

Essential Job Duties:

Direct Service

  • Provide case management services related to individual student well-being, including outreach, referral, guidance, support, and crisis intervention.

  • Support, assist, and mentor students with diverse socioeconomic, racial, and educational experiences.

  • Conduct ongoing meetings with students, faculty and staff to discuss progress toward stabilization and the impact of behavioral or psycho-social distress on educational goals with an eye to supporting student self-determination and agency.

  • Carry out University policy and procedures for providing disability accommodations and support services in accordance with Institutional policy and applicable laws and regulations.

  • Documents all service contacts in a timely manner including email, telephonic meetings, collateral and resource contact, and maintains sensitive student records in accordance with Institutional policy and applicable laws and regulations.

Training/Collaboration

  • Partner as a key member of University Behavioral Intervention Team supporting service continuity and intervention effectiveness for students of concern.

  • Alert to changes in student behavior suggesting escalation towards behavioral or psycho-social dysregulation and recommend or enact appropriate interventions.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to peers in the daily operation of the department as it relates to student health and wellbeing.

  • Serve as a consultant to faculty and staff on issues including health, wellness, military, disability and accommodation.

  • Provide guidance to the University community about all aspects of diversity and inclusion within higher education.

  • Represent Student Affairs on committees, workgroups, and and/or taskforces to enhance departmental presence and connection to the University.

  • Cultivate, support and facilitate an inclusive environment within Student Affairs and across the institution.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Substantial record of professional accomplishment in adult case management or post-secondary student support

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of issues relevant to student populations including individual well-being, case management, guidance, support, crisis intervention, and outreach, to support delivery of specialized health and wellness services for students

  • 5+ years related professional experience (or equivalent)

  • Working knowledge of laws pertaining protected populations in higher education

  • Collaborative, problem-solving, planning and organizational skills

  • Strong oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensure or progress toward licensure in area of specialization such as LCSW, MFT, LPCC or LPC

Education:

  • Master's degree in a related field such as Social Work, Counseling, Student Services, Special Education, or Public Health.
