We are currently recruiting a PhD candidate to join the WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Disability and Human Rights, based in the Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights at the Institute of Mental Health, University of Nottingham. The successful candidate will be supervised by Prof Martin Orrell. The PhD will involve the development of global good practice guidance for dementia services in collaboration with an international network involving the WHO and leading dementia organisations including Alzheimers Disease International. In addition the student would join the IMH Centre for Dementia which aims to improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers, through high quality, useful research looking at how people with dementia spend their time and what helps them to get quality from life. The studentship is funded by Nottingham Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Mental Health and will provide a stipend to cover living costs (approximately £15,691) and cover Home University tuition fees (estimated at £4,596) for the duration of the project (36 months) plus funding for research expenses.  International students may apply, but the studentship will not cover international tuition fees.

Starting date 1st October 2022.

Requirements:

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Psychology, Psychiatry, Sociology, Social Sciences, Nursing, Health Sciences or a related discipline.

Essential: The successful candidate will be keen with strong written and verbal communication skills and some experience with research including qualitative and/or quantitative methods.

Desirable: Experience in dementia care. Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
