Advice and Counselling Service
Post title: Student Wellbeing Advisers Post ref: QMUL25773
About the Role
The Student Wellbeing Adviser roles are two new positions based in our long established and highly regarded Advice and Counselling Service, although they will work closely with other colleagues within Student Wellbeing, particularly the Disability and Dyslexia Service. The post holders will act as a first point of contact for students experiencing problems with their mental health and will triage queries from both students and staff in our Schools, Institutes and Professional Services departments to ensure that these students get the most appropriate appointment. In addition to supporting students via appointments, they will also be required to make supportive calls on the phone or via online platforms like MS Teams.
About You
We are seeking graduate level candidates with experience of working in a wellbeing setting, ideally within an educational institution, with knowledge of providing support, advice and guidance to people experiencing difficulties with their mental health. We require people with knowledge of referral pathways within the NHS for students with mental health difficulties.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Advice and Counselling Service is a multidisciplinary student support service offering counselling, mental health support, psychiatry clinics, welfare advice, financial advice and immigration advice. Alongside the Disability and Dyslexia Service and the Student Life team, it makes up one third of the student wellbeing division within the Student and Academic Services directorate.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 6th September 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £34,220 - £40,194 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Niall Morrissey at n.morrissey@qmul.ac.uk or on +44 (0) 020 7882 7359.
