The Student Immigration and Information team aims to provide high quality support to international (including EU) students and their families before their arrival, during their time in Oxford and the transition to returning home or remaining in the UK to work.
The postholder will be one of two advisers who have responsibility for managing and running an immigration advice service for prospective and current international students within a team that also deals with Tier 4 student visa compliance work. You will advise students on obtaining entry clearance overseas, extending a visa within the UK, working during and after studies and a range of other visa related queries and assistance which can vary widely in complexity. This will include frequent communication with students and staff by email, presentations on working after studies and student visa conditions and use of appropriate media to keep students well-informed, particularly through web pages, printed material and email briefings.
You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills with a sound understanding of immigration law and rules, and be able to deal empathetically with confidential and sensitive student circumstances. An important part of the role will be researching immigration law and advocating on behalf of the students to various parties as applicable e.g. with the Home Office.
Strong IT skills and attention to detail and accuracy will be important attributes. You should have a proactive approach and interest in student immigration and international student welfare as well as a commitment to collaborative teamwork.
