Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Imperial College London’s Student Counselling Team that works as part of a main specialist Student Counselling & Mental Health Advice Service, supporting all Imperial students.

This Part time Student Counselling role is part of well-established Student Counselling Team that has grown over recent years. The service currently comprises 22 staff with a 16.4 FTE.  There will be further new roles recruited during the start of 2022 as this service responds to the growing need of our students. You will be fully supported and work with and across this multi-disciplinary, dynamic service to support Imperial students and staff and will be responsible to the Head of Student Counselling & Mental Health Advice Service.

Duties and responsibilities

The post holder will carry a significant client case load providing psychological assessment and brief counselling to students at the College.

The post holder will also contribute to:

  • providing drop in appointments
  • psycho-educational workshops and training on matters related to mental health and counselling
  • events promoting the Service and student wellbeing across the College.

The Student Counselling Service aims to enable students to enhance their psychological health and personal effectiveness, thus empowering them to optimise their academic accomplishment, College involvement, and personal development.

This is achieved through the provision of a variety of psychological services such as assessment, individual counselling and consultation.


Essential requirements

  • Please note that applicants must have one of the following accreditations/ registrations to be considered for this post:



  • full accreditation with the BACP or BABCP

  • UKCP Registration

  • a Counselling Psychologist with full HCPC Registration



  • Experience of holding a case load of at least 20/25 clients a week gained working within an institution/organisation and not privately.
