Please note that this role is only open to current University of Leeds students studying a Social Sciences discipline.

Are you reliable, confident, and passionate about your programme of study?  Do you have an interest in working with young people to share your subject knowledge and enthusiasm for higher education?

The University of Leeds is committed to widening access to higher education and in supporting a diverse student population succeed in their studies and future careers.  We believe that students with the potential to benefit from university should have an equal opportunity to do so regardless of their background.

The Educational Engagement Team works with students aged 11-19 on inspirational, fun, and interactive outreach activities to raise awareness of, and aspirations towards higher education. Our events and projects are designed to give students a greater insight into higher education, making university-level study accessible and desirable to school and college students from groups who are under-represented at university.

As a Student Ambassador, you will work as part of a highly motivated, professional team to deliver presentations and facilitate workshops about: the benefits of higher education; your degree specialism; and your experience of studying at the University.  These events are delivered, either in person at schools/colleges, on campus or online.  Further duties include hosting taster events, higher education experience days, campus tours, off campus events with partner organisations and supporting residential events, including summer schools.

We are particularly interested in recruiting students from the following academic areas. However, we welcome applications from all Social Sciences students interested in supporting our general outreach and HE aspiration raising events and activities.

    Education

    Geography

    Law

    Politics

    Sociology

So, if you love your course and life at university, why not tell future students about it?

You will be required to act as a positive ambassador for the University and higher education.  You will work with young people from a range or backgrounds, in varying audience sizes so you should possess strong communication and presentation skills.

Work in this post is available throughout the academic year.  Hours are designed to be flexible around your studies. The number of hours you work is dependent on your existing academic commitments and the activity requests we receive from schools/colleges.
