The University College London, British Skeleton and the English Institute of Sport are looking to offer an exciting opportunity to a chartered physiotherapist
We are looking for dynamic a self-motivated physiotherapist, striving for clinical excellence that is interested in moving into sport, to undertake a full-time or part time partially funded MSc combined with a placement within a world class sports science and medicine team.
The placement will be flexible to meet the requirements of the sport and successful candidate (approximately 46 days in duration over a defined period)
The Masters programme in Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health at UCL is ideally focused towards practitioners who wish to deliver within the high-performance sports environment. The course will commence in September 2019 and be complete by August 2020 or 2021. (1 or 2-year study option) The English Institute of Sport will provide a £2,500 course fee bursary contribution.
Placement Experience: English Institute of Sport
It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be placed alongside the Great Britain Sports Science and Medicine team located within the University of Bath. The placement will offer the opportunity for the candidate to observe and be part of the British Skeleton World Class Program. The Candidate will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills required to work in the high-performance sports environment. The placement will involve the following activities:
- Participation in an applied research project within the British Skeleton Physiotherapy Team which would contribute to identifying the physical impact of sliding within the sport of Skeleton.
- Applied physiotherapy experience within the high-performance training environment through targeted learning and reflective practice.
MSc Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health
The Masters programme in Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health at UCL covers the evidence-based management of medical problems in athletes; the prevention and management of sports and musculoskeletal injuries; and the fundamentals of physical activity and exercise prescription in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. It also provides a thorough grounding in relevant areas of anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and sports psychology. Students will develop essential research skills through an independent research project which may be relevant to the sport that the candidate is placed within.
Teaching is delivered through a combination of formal lectures, hands-on practical sessions, small group seminars, and clinics. It is delivered by lecturers who are highly experienced in their field. Up-to-date, evidence-based practice will be emphasised throughout and students' contribution through discussion is considered key. Assessment is through written examination, presentations, coursework and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), as well as the dissertation and viva voce (oral) examination.

This programme is based at the Institute of Sport Exercise and Health (ISEH), a major legacy project of the 2012 London Olympic Games and one of three locations forming the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine. The ISEH is a dedicated state-of-the-art facility in the centre of London, delivering world-class research, teaching and training, and clinical expertise in sport and exercise medicine.

Applicants for the MSc in Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health at UCL should have a minimum of one-year post-graduation clinical experience relating to their primary degree.
