About the position

We have a vacancy for a postdoc position of 3 years. The position is part of the Digital Enterprise research area at the faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (www.ntnu.edu/ie ). Relevant research fields in the Digital Enterprise area are Information Systems, Management of Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, Digital Economy, and related subjects.

The focus of the position is to conduct empirical research and to support the management of the Digital Enterprise research area. The Digital Enterprise is a cross-disciplinary research and teaching area focused on developing top-class knowledge on the characteristics and challenges of digitalization in public and private organizations. It is grounded on a holistic perspective. Complementing technology-centered accounts, the Digital Enterprise area is concerned with the study of long-term and distributed processes, in which social and technical elements influence each other and the surrounding context.

The Digital Enterprise encompasses several research projects and courses at the faculty departments and relies on a tight collaboration with several partners from the private and the public sector, including welfare, municipality, the energy industry, and ICT service outsourcing.

The position reports to head of Department

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct empirically grounded research on digitalization in private and public organizations
  • Perform literature reviews and be able to synthesize knowledge
  • Communicate and disseminate results to academic and non-academic stakeholders
  • Publish in international conferences and journals in the relevant fields
  • Participate in the management and coordination of the Digital Enterprise, within areas relevant to the position

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in [subject area] or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.The postdoc’s main objective is to hone and further develop research skills acquired during the PhD.

Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Information Systems or Software Engineering (or a related area), or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications we seek for this position are the following:

  • Proven skills in applying qualitative, quantitative, or mixed research methods in real-world organizations
  • A good, documented understanding of the relevant research fields. Experience with specific approaches such as Design Science Research will be considered as an advantage.
  • Prior scientific publications in the relevant areas
  • The ability and willingness to conduct research in a multidisciplinary setting and team.
  • Good written and oral English language skills
  • Experience from projects within national or national research projects will be considered a big advantage

As the participants and partners in the Digital Enterprise research area are mostly Norwegian, knowledge of a Scandinavian language is desired, but it is not a prerequisite. Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must provide evidence of good English language skills, written and spoken.

The following tests can be used as such documentation: TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). Minimum scores are:

  • TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)
  • IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)
  • CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
