The Role and the Department

As a Post Award Finance and Project Officer (Studentships), you will play a key role in providing high quality support and advice to academic staff. You will take an active project management approach to the portfolio of projects you are responsible for, developing good working relationships with project staff, attending regular meetings to discuss progress against financial and reporting deliverables and will act as a source of expertise and advice to these teams assisting them in the delivery of their projects. You will be based in the central office but will also be expected to spend time in the academic departments you support to provide a key link role between the academic community and the Research and Innovation Services Division.

Your application should cover the following criteria:

Essential Criteria

Qualifications/Experience
1.  Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or a Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.
2.  Association of Accounting Technicians qualification or equivalent or provide evidence of suitable financial experience 
3. Relevant administrative experience of working within a studentship or research claims environment
4. Experience of providing advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues 

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
5.    Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
6.    Strong digital competence across a range digital devices and apps including Microsoft 365 applications, Worktribe or ORACLE.
7.    Committed to continuing professional development.
8.    Ability to plan and organise claims and financial reporting involving the service.
9.    Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.
10.   Ability to participate in networks to share and discuss good practice and exchange information.

Desirable Criteria

  • 1.       Experience of working within a post award role within an HEI
  • 2.       Prince 2 or similar project management qualification.
  • 3.       Significant recent experience of administering economic development funding.
