The Faculty of Arts is committed to undertaking initiatives which support under-represented groups to study with us. One initiative of this is the Faculty-funded studentship, open to candidates who:

  • identify as being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background
  • hold an offer of a PhD place in the School of Humanities, the School of English, or the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies (current PhD students are not eligible to apply)
  • have a Home tuition fee status

The studentship covers Home tuition fees for three years full-time or six years pro-rata part-time and pays a stipend which is tax-free, does not need to be paid back and will match the UKRI stipend level (as an indication, the UKRI stipend for 2023/24 is £18,662 per year for full-time study, pro-rata part-time).
