We are currently inviting applications for a PhD in Linguistics funded by the Economic and Social Research Council as part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS ) Doctoral Training Partnership.

The University of Reading is at the forefront in innovative research in Linguistics. Reading has been known for decades as a centre of excellence in Clinical Language Sciences, Language Development and Disorders, Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics, English Language Teaching, and Applied Linguistics. We are currently inviting applications from excellent UK and international students for PhDs in these different areas of linguistics. Interested candidates can find information about our areas of research expertise through consulting the websites of our two research groups that cover topics in linguistics, the Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences Research Division , housed in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences , and the Modern Languages and Linguistics Research Division in the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics . 

We invite applications from candidates with research interests relevant to these fields.

Funding Details:  

  • Tuition fees, UKRI stipend and application access to funding for training, travel, fieldwork and overseas visits
  • Starts October 2022
  • 3 and 4 year awards available depending on project and researcher experience/qualifications
  • Open to applications from candidates without a Master’s qualification
  • Available full- or part-time

Applications are open to UK, EU and International applicants. ESRC SeNSS funding covers tuition fees at the Home rate and the University of Reading will cover the difference between Home and International fees. All awards are open to candidates wishing to study part-time. Applications from candidates without a Master’s degree and from groups under-represented in doctoral study are encouraged.

Applicants must apply for a place of admission at the University Reading by 14 January 2022.
