Project title: Crafting Hybrid Perovskites for Sustainable Energy Applications
Application details
The studentship covers tuition fees and a tax-free stipend (£15,609 per annum for 2021/22 academic year) for three years.
The position is to start on 1st October 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Project description:
Hybrid perovskites are gaining increasing attention for energy conversion and storage due to the application potential of hybrid perovskites being controlled by cations in sublattice sites which correlates with the amount of oxygen (O2 ) σ*- antibonding and the degree of B-site transition metal–O2 covalency. The fabrication of hybrid perovskites via different materials processing routes offers the opportunity for structural tunability and modification of their optical, electronic, and chemical properties via defect chemistry.
Accordingly, this project aims to develop new materials processing methods to produce a new class of two-dimensional hybrid perovskite composites with tailorable features via bottom-up synthetic routes. Using a combination of diffraction, microscopic and spectroscopic tools, structure-function relationships will be determined. The proposed methodology offers control and flexibility to bridge the materials discovery gap while tackling scientific questions related to the interaction between sustainable inorganic components, physicochemical properties (i.e., defects, structure, etc.) and their influence on energy scavenging via electrochemical effects.
Entry Requirements: We are seeking a bright, highly motivated individual who has or is predicted to be awarded a first class or 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent if from other EU countries) in materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or a relevant discipline. Due to funding restrictions this position is only available to UK/EU candidates with "home fee status".
Applications, with a detailed CV and letter of application, together with the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to directly to Dr Oluwafunmilola Ola on the below email address.
For any enquiries, please email Dr Oluwafunmilola Ola ([email protected] ).
Early application is strongly encouraged.
