The Economics academic group undertakes rigorous and relevant applied research in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics, with a view to applying the powerful and flexible tools of economics to both understand and inform the economic decisions of individuals, firms, governments and other institutions. The group’s research interests and expertise span five key areas: applied econometrics and productivity analysis; financial economics and banking; monetary economics and development; international economics and trade; and industrial economics. Within the Economics academic group we are especially keen to receive PhD research proposals in the following areas: 1. Macroeconomics: Monetary Policy, Economic Development 2. Financial Economics and Financial Technology 3. Microeconomics: Industrial Economics, Productivity Analysis, Energy and Environmental, Behavioural Economics 4. International Economics: International Money and Finance, Exchange Rates, International Trade, Foreign Direct Investment, Globalisation.

Entry requirements:

At least a 2:1 honour degree (or equivalent) with a preference for a UK Masters degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%) or International equivalent. English Language requirement of IELTS band 7.0 or above with not less than 7.0 in each component.

Funding information:

The studentship provides a minimum tax free stipend of £15,609 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK rate. International (including EU) students may apply however the total value of the studentship will be used to cover the cost of the International tuition fee.

Please note that studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who have applied within the School. Funding decisions will not be confirmed until early 2022.
