Funded PhD Studentship in the Tanos Laboratory on the Role of Centriole Distal Appendages, Cilia and Ciliary Signalling in Kidney Disease.
The Tanos Laboratory at Brunel University London is offering a fully funded PhD studentship to carry out research on the role of distal appendages, cilia and ciliary signalling in kidney disease.
This fellowship will be based in the College of Health Medicine and Life Sciences at Brunel University London and funded by Kidney Research UK. It will offer a basic salary in-line with the UKRI stipend of £17,609 plus Home/EU tuition fees, for a maximum of 42 months.
Overview
This PhD studentship on the role of centriole distal appendages and ciliary signalling in kidney disease will integrate previous work from the Tanos lab, together with other current knowledge in the field. This research will involve using tissue culture, cloning, cell biology and microscopy techniques involving the well-known RPE-1 model cell line as well as RPTEC and IMCD3 cells. Later stages of the project will involve research in collaboration with Professor David Long at UCL GOS ICH. The student will also benefit from Dr. Tanos’ an extensive collaborative network.

Eligibility
Candidates should have an undergraduate degree (first or upper second class) or equivalent qualification in Biosciences (tbc). A Masters qualification in a relevant area would be desirable. Experience in cell biology research, microscopy and kidney research is desirable. Applicants who have not been awarded a degree by a University in the UK will be expected to demonstrate English language skills to IELTS 7.0 (minimum 6.0 in any section).
