About the roles

The School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London invites applications for two Teaching and Scholarship Lectureship positions, one of which will lead on the Student Experience and the other be an Educational Expert. Both positions are permanent appointments in any field of economics and finance. For both roles all academic levels will be considered: Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor (equivalent to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor).

Student Experience Lead

The first position will focus and lead on the student experience for the School’s undergraduate degree programmes. They will take a lead on the development of policies, procedures and strategies relating to the student experience, including student engagement, progression, academic advising and feedback processes. They will also take an active role in directly advising students on academic / pastoral issues. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the quality of the student experience, but will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of high quality teaching and assessment.    

Education Expert

The second position will take a leading role with respect to all teaching related matters requiring educational expertise. This will include further developments of the undergraduate curriculum, and the innovation of teaching methods within the School. As an Education Expert they will provide advice, guidance and training to colleagues regarding teaching methods, and they will manage and train the School’s Teaching Assistants. They will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment.

In addition to the specific focuses outlined above, the post holder will be expected to undertake the core elements of a teaching and scholarship role as outlined in the attached job profile.  The successful candidates for both roles must have a PhD (or be close to completion for Lecturer level applicants) and/or relevant professional qualification and/or equivalent professional experience. Candidates should also have the ability to and appropriate experience of delivering high quality teaching and assessment.

Salary and benefits

All the appointments are full-time and permanent, but consideration will be given to candidates seeking part-time positions. Salaries are competitive and not less than £42,433 per annum (Lecturer) or £55,840 per annum (Senior Lecturer / Reader) inclusive of London Allowance. Professorial salaries will be commensurate with level, skills and experience. In addition, these posts attract market supplements and there is discretion to apply between 35% and 50% of salary depending on current market conditions.
