This role will be based on the University campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

As a Lecturer in Teaching and Scholarship, your role will be to support the Lifelong Learning Centre in delivering its Student Education Strategy and transforming the educational experience of its students, ensuring that, regardless of their background, they develop the knowledge and skills required to succeed and make a positive impact in the world. You will bring and embrace innovative and evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning that will deliver inclusive, active and digitally enhanced experiences to all our students. 

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual with interdisciplinary expertise in and the knowledge, experience and creativity to specialise in innovative modes of course delivery, assessment, curriculum design, and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). With the ability to collaborate effectively and to motivate and inspire learners, you will become a valued academic member of the Lifelong Learning Centre, where you will support innovation in our taught programmes and help introduce new forms of teaching and learning. You will also be part of a diverse and committed community of academics working across the University on our Student Education strategy and will be expected to contribute to its work. This experience will provide you with deep cross-disciplinary experience and an understanding of the University as a whole. We are committed to excellence in Student Education, and you will participate in induction and training events tailored to educators and designed to support you to develop within your career.

You will be experienced in Higher Education teaching  with particular expertise working with students who are under-represented in Higher Education, including mature learners and those from diverse and widening participation backgrounds. In this role you will lead on some educational enhancement projects across our portfolio and make a major contribution to teaching and project supervision on at least one of the Lifelong Learning Centre’s programmes. You will have demonstrable experience of contributing to curriculum design in interdisciplinary or multi disciplinary projects.

The Lifelong Learning Centre exists at the University of Leeds to create opportunities for groups under-represented at the University, including mature learners and those from diverse and widening participation backgrounds by providing a transformative, sustainable, and research-based educational experience for students, who develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and make a positive impact in the world. We deliver foundation years, part-time and full-time undergraduate degrees, and apprenticeship programmes. We have a consistent record of teaching excellence including 95% positive score for “the teaching on my course” in our latest NSS results.  

The Lifelong Learning Centre is both a multi-disciplinary School running undergraduate courses, and a specialist service supporting mature and part-time learners across the University. We focus on engaging our students as partners in their education, through active and inclusive approaches to learning, and research-based content. Our current portfolio of courses is available on our website and a key part of this role will be to help us develop a sustainable portfolio for the future.  

You will be responsible for teaching on foundation year or undergraduate courses. You will lead and contribute to educational enhancement projects in areas such as, surfacing skills, student futures and assessment. You will also work with colleagues to support them in the introduction of innovative curriculum design and delivery, utilising interactive teaching methods, increased use of technology-enhanced learning, inclusive and authentic learning and assessment, and transdisciplinary approaches to the teaching of major themes, such as sustainability. You will liaise between the School’s curriculum review and design team and relevant teams across the University, as well as working with a wide range of students and external stakeholders to develop and promote innovative curriculum design and delivery. The role also has a significant scholarly commitment, with individuals engaging in scholarly work on teaching and learning that will help build the academic identity of the Lifelong Learning Centre.
