The Department of Economics at Manchester wishes to appoint one Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) in Econometrics from September 2023. This is a permanent position.

We wish to appoint an innovative, engaging and dynamic colleague who will be able to enhance the quality of our teaching in econometrics and improve the student experience at Manchester. The candidates will be responsible for UG units in Econometrics, Statistics or related areas. This could be large and compulsory core units for economics students. Your responsibility will be course design, formative and summative assessment design, VLE design, delivery of training in statistical programming, delivery of large and small group teaching and coordination of the teaching team. An important and significant part of the colleagues’ responsibilities will also be the provision of small group teaching in a variety of related units.

In addition to the teaching responsibilities the colleague will be expected to contribute to the program management and general teaching administration in the Economics department.

In addition to course specific engagement the colleague will also contribute to developing economic resources relating to generic study and employability skills and will be involved in other administrative and pastoral duties.

Career progression on the Teaching & Scholarship is attainable through all the usual levels. Colleagues on the Scholarship track are expected to actively engage with and contribute to the pedagogy of teaching economics in HE. Career progression will be based on excellence in teaching, teaching innovation, service and leadership as well knowledge transfer and external engagement.

  • a 1 page summary of recent teaching evaluations.
  •  Provide a reflection on how your teaching has developed and how you see your pedagogy developing in the near future. (500 words maximum)
  • The Economics Network provides pedagogy case studies (https://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/teaching/casestudy ). Provide a synopsis for a potential case study, relating to statistics or econometrics teaching and learning, which you could contribute to the Economics Network. This could be a case study of something you have already done or are planning to do. (500 words maximum).
