This new full–time post is available from 1st September 2022 on a fixed term basis until 31st August 2023. 

Summary of the role

The post of Lecturer in Biomedical Science will be to support the delivery of our range of teaching programmes, including BMBS (Medicine), BSc Medical Sciences, BSc Neuroscience and/or our suite of Postgraduate Taught programmes, as appropriate according to expertise.

The post will include teaching in large- and small-group formats, assessing, tutoring and leading modules, as well as any curriculum development or evaluation work as specified by the programme directors. 

About you

For a Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in a biomedical discipline e.g. Pharmacology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Human Physiology, Microbiology, Histopathology, Nutrition, Neuroscience, Genetics/Genomics to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

College of Medicine and Health

The College of Medicine and Health encompasses the Medical School, Academy of Nursing and the Department of Allied Health Professions. Since our inception in 2010 as the University of Exeter Medical School, we have seen significant growth and development, and this trajectory is set to continue as we develop new programmes and recruit world-class researchers. Our aim is to improve the health of the South West and beyond, through the development of high quality graduates and world-leading research that has international impact.

Our Medicine programme is ranked 9th in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. Exeter’s Clinical Medicine research was ranked 3rd in the country, based on research outputs that were rated world-leading. Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care research also ranked in the top ten, in joint 9th for research outputs rated world-leading or internationally excellent.

Allied Health Professions includes our Medical Imaging (Radiography) and Pharmacy departments. The College of Medicine and Health has staff and students based across Devon and Cornwall.

St Luke’s Campus in Exeter is a small but vibrant campus which is home to most of our teaching staff, and facilities include Life Sciences Resource Centre, Clinical Skills Resource Centre, Medical Imaging suite and Medical Sciences Laboratory.

The Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building is a £27.5m health education and research centre, streamlines the process from discovery to patient care. The state-of-the-art building, a partnership with the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E), is located on the Wonford hospital site close to St Luke’s Campus. It encompasses the Postgraduate Education Centre, the Wellcome Wolfson Medical Research Centre and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Exeter Clinical Research Facility.

Our Truro campus is the base for Medical School students studying MSc Environment and Human Health and for a proportion of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery students during years 3, 4 and 5. It is also the home of the European Centre for Environment & Human Health (ECEHH) .
