Graduate Teaching Associate (PhD studentship track)

Fixed-Term, Part Time, 0.4 FTE

(This post comprises a 40% Teaching Associate role and a 60% PhD student role for four years)

The yearly stipend for the PhD studentship is £6500.

Starting Salary is £29,645 per annum pro rata inclusive of London Allowance 1*

*This is the expected starting salary for this post however appointment at a higher point may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the role.

Applications are invited for a newly developed post of Graduate Teaching Studentships in the Department of Psychology, School of Life Sciences and the Environment. Teaching duties run from mid-September to end-May on a 0.48 FTE basis (up to 20 hours per week, but with an average of 17.5). This equates to a 0.40 FTE contract across the year and will be salaried on that pro-rata basis, using the Royal Holloway Grade 6 scale. In addition to this, successful applicants will be awarded a studentship to support their part-time PhD studies; this will include a part-time fee waiver and a stipend of £6,500. This post is initially for four years, but the contract may be extended, if required, to support PhD completion.

The post holder will work as part of our academic team in a dynamic and supportive environment that is known internationally for its outstanding research and teaching, and will join an active and expanding postgraduate research community. There is a strong research environment, with the Department being ranked 6th in the UK in the 2014 REF for our world-leading and internationally excellent research. The PhD/research element of this role involves being enrolled as a part-time PhD student. You must apply having completed your project proposal with a named project supervisor.

Applicants should ideally hold, or be predicted to achieve, a first class undergraduate degree or equivalent in Psychology or related disciplines (minimum requirement: 2.1). Applicants must be able to demonstrate Psychology subject-matter knowledge relevant to typical undergraduate curriculum.  Some experience of teaching at undergraduate or MSc level is desirable.
