Award Summary

Two awards are available this year. One is open to ALL students, and the other is reserved for students from under-represented groups. Awards cover 100% of UK tuition fees for the MMus , MLitt  or MPhil in Music. Successful international candidates will be required to fund the difference between UK and international fees.

Overview

As one of the UK’s larger music departments, The International Centre for Music Studies  at Newcastle University sustains a distinctive and plural research culture. We are seeking candidates of the highest calibre in any of our areas of research strength, which include:

  • Music analysis
  • Composition, Performance, Improvisation, and interdisciplinary creative practice

Eligibility Criteria

Available for UK and International students.

You should hold, or expect to achieve, a minimum of 2:1 honours degree or equivalent in music or a related discipline.

International students whose first language is not English need IELTS 7.0 overall (minimum of 6.5 in all sub-skills) or equivalent.

You will need to attach degree transcripts* and certificates. You will not be able to submit your application until you have submitted your degree transcript/s. If English is not your first language, upload your English language qualification when prompted by the application form.

You will need to: 

·        insert the code mus01 in the studentship/partnership reference field 

·        Yourpersonal statement (400 words) should outline: 

o  1) your preparedness to undertake your proposed research 

2) how the MMus might prepare you for doctoral research or other professional development 

3) how your research fits ICMuS

·        Please upload docx or pdf files.

·        Your research proposal (750 wordsmax) for dissertation or Major Creative Project ) should outline: 

1) the research questions your project will address 

2) the current state of the research within the field or discipline 

3) the methods you plan to use.
