EPSRC funds studentships to provide the next generation of skilled individuals in the Engineering and Physical Science.
The University of Kent is delighted to offer up to four fully funded EPSRC studentships starting in September 2024. The studentships cover tuition fees and an annual maintenance grant.

Scholarship value
These scholarships include a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend, £18,668 for 2023/24 (2024/25 rate to be announced), tuition fees at the home rate and access to further research funding. If you are applying as international candidate, Kent will waive the difference between Home and International fees.

Criteria
Open to Home and Overseas (including EU) candidates. To be classed as a Home student, candidates must meet the following criteria and the associated residency requirements:.
- Be a UK National or,
- Have settled status, or
- Have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirement) or
- Have indefinite leave to remain or enter.
If a candidate does not meet the criteria above, they would be classes as an international student.

Kent is offering four EPSRC studentships starting in September 2024 to exceptional students undertaking PhD study in the following schools/subjects on a full-time basis. Part-time will be considered for Home students only:
How to apply
If you are applying for a Computing or Engineering PhD, your research project must have the support of a main supervisor or supervisory team.
If you wish to apply for a Physics or Chemistry PhD, you will need to apply to a supervisor-led project, see links above.
Step One:
Apply for the relevant PhD programme at Kent and follow the online application process . For Physics and Chemistry, see side menu for eligible schools and further details of projects. If you are applying to a Physics or Chemistry project, state which project you are applying to within your application and name the project supervisor as your main supervisor.
As part of the process, students should include the following:
- explain reasons for study and indicate your interest in the EPSRC scholarship
- provide a research proposal
- provide details/evidence of qualifications
- provide two academic references
Step 2:
Once you applied on Kent’s online application portal (KentVision), you must email your Application ID number, your full name and your PhD programme to [email protected] . This step is to confirm that you wish to apply for an EPSRC Scholarship only those who have emailed their interest will be considered.
