Economics Teaching Position for Spring 2022 term available at the University of Notre Dame (USA) in England.

The University of Notre Dame, a Catholic research university that ranks in the top 20 among American colleges and universities, operates an academic center in the heart of Westminster to promote intellectual exchange through conferences, seminars and events, as well as its academic program for undergraduate students.

The University of Notre Dame’s London Undergraduate Program seeks an instructor able to develop and teach an economics elective to students studying in London during the Spring semester, as part of a broad liberal-arts program of study.

The proposed class will require approximately three hours of teaching per week over an academic semester of 14 weeks in length.  Duties include the in-person delivery of course materials, regular assignment and assessment of student work,  including setting and grading some form of summative assessment, and offering availability for office hours for students, either in person or remotely.  Classes are typically capped at 22-24 students, and instructors are encouraged to make full use of our central London location in the design and delivery of their courses.

A course in any aspect of economics could be considered, other than the topic of the UK Economy, which is addressed in an existing London course.  We are particularly interested in proposals related to health economics, economics of sustainability, or topics that interface with politics and/or international affairs.   Examples of elective courses offered on the main campus include Economic Growth; Industrial Organization; Economics of the Family; Development Economics; Game Theory; Health Economics and Monetary Policy.

Requirements: A Masters degree and university teaching experience in a relevant subject area are required for this position. A PhD is strongly preferred. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.

Teaching commitment:  2x75 minute class meetings per week, either twice a week, on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday pattern, or as a double session meeting once a week Monday - Friday.  In addition, instructors are expected to make themselves available for some additional office hours for their students, as well as completing all marking, etc.

Dates for Spring 2022 semester:  10th January, to April 29th. (Easter break will be the bank holidays only)

The salary for this position will be commensurate with level of academic experience and the teaching load of the class, in the range of £4,000 to £5,400.

This post is conditional on the University of Notre Dame being able to run study abroad in London in Spring 2022.

To apply, please send your cover letter, CV,  a one page summary of each course you would propose to teach, and details of two references to Ms Alice Tyrell, Director of Academic Programs, University of Notre Dame in England, 1 Suffolk Street, London SW1Y 4HG, or by email to [email protected] .

Closing date for reception of applications: 26th September 2021

Interviews will be scheduled for the 6th and 8th October.
