Collaborative robotics, where humans and robots share the same work spaces, is an exciting and emerging technology pushing the boundaries of what was previously possible in the application of industrial robotics.  Of particular interest is understanding how safety can be enhanced by understanding the relationship between human movement and robot kinematics so that tasks and operations can be shared efficiently between the human operator and the robot.

In support of this Cranfield University and Airbus have formed an exciting collaboration, supported by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, to investigate Human Robot Collaboration in Aerospace Manufacturing and a fully funded PhD studentship has been made available. The PhD student will be based within the Airbus facility in Broughton but will be expected to work closely with engineers at and across other company sites and maintain close links with the academic community at Cranfield.
