About the Awards

Applications are invited for a DMan fee waiver bursary in Hertfordshire Business School at the University of Hertfordshire. The bursary is offered for part-time study (subject to satisfactory progress). It provides a full tuition fee waiver for three years. Additional research funding will also be available to support fieldwork costs and appropriate conference attendance.

The successful applicant will be part of a stimulating research community which will fully support them on their path towards becoming a scholar practitioner. The School improved its position in the recent Research Excellence Framework in Business and Management. Ranked 1st  globally for overall research student satisfaction for Business and Economics research degree programmes (2019 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey), the University of Hertfordshire is also ranked 10th  globally for postgraduate research student satisfaction (2021 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey).

About the DMan

The DMan is a part-time professional doctorate run along psychodynamic lines where students are encouraged to take their experience at work as the subject and object of study. Students are required to attend each and all of the four day quarterly residentials, that is 16 days a year, which are in-person encounters.

As a professional doctorate the DMan encourages critical engagement with practice so candidates are likely to be working in a variety of disciplines, from HR to organisational consultancy, from strategy and IT strategy through to project management. The most important aspect of developing a DMan thesis, irrespective of the discipline being researched, is the ability to sustain a reflexive, critical inquiry into the experience of trying to get things done with other people in an organisational context. These are expected to make a contribution to practice, from practice.
